Early
Identification and Characterization of the Prodromal Phase of Thought
Disorders in Individuals at Risk- Control Subjects
AGES 12-35

UCLA RESEARCH STUDY
Parents - Do you have a healthy child between the ages of 12-17?
The Staglin Music Festival Center for the Assessment and Prevention
of Prodromal States (CAPPS) at UCLA is looking for individuals
between the ages of 12-35 to participate in a study on Memory,
Attention, Learning, and Interpersonal/Emotional information processing.
What is the purpose of the study?
The purposes of this study are: 1) to develop a knowledge base
for the prediction of future psychiatric diagnoses in adolescents
and young adults who have symptoms that may signal the early
stages of thought disorders; and 2) to understand how brain functioning
changes over time in people who develop such symptoms as compared
to those who do not.
.
Who can participate and what does the study involve?

evaluation
(6 hours), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain scans (2.5
hours), identifying numbers or letters that are presented on a computer
(5 hours), blood draw, identifying emotions presented in a
booklet and on videotape (2 hours), psychosocial assessments
(3-4 hours).
Shorter evaluations will occur four more times over the next
2 years.
