Shutdown the scanner. The procedure for doing so is attached to this memo.

Call the UCLA Page Operator (56301 or 310/825-6301 from an off-campus phone) and ask to page the party on call for "Brain Mapping MR Lab emergencies"

If fire personnel arrive, prevent them from entering the scanner room with fire fighting equipment.

ONLY if it is unavoidable that fire personnel enter the room with axes and other heavy gear, QUENCH the magnet by pressing the EMERGENCY DISCHARGE button on the tan discharge unit located in the magnet room above and to the right of the sink: Plug the unit into the electrical strip. Lift the clear plastic cover and hold down the Red button for 10 seconds.
